Do you remember the first pair of shoes you ever wore to the gym?
If you can recall what they were, which pair did you stroll on into the gym wearing that day?
If you can’t think that far back in time, don’t worry… Because when it comes to gym shoes, I sure can!
And in hindsight, the pair of shoes that I put on my feet were one of the worst pairs I ever could have sported.
Why is that, though? Do the shoes that you wear to the gym really matter all that much?
Believe it or not, they truly do! And today, we’re going to talk about why.
Plus, as the title of this blog post states, I’m here to let you in on why I think wearing Vans’ classic slip-ons when strength training or lifting weights is superior!
Let’s Review This Cute Pair of Brown Checkerboard Vans Classic Slip-Ons
Before I dive into the top 3 benefits of lifting weights in flat shoes, such as the Vans Classic Slip-Ons, I wanted to focus on this beautiful brown pair of checkerboard Vans, which I bought a little while ago!
As someone who gravitates towards a wardrobe with neutral and earth-toned shades, the deep and rich chocolate color of these Vans had my heart from the moment I saw them!
While I do not believe this color is currently available anymore, here are the various colors you can choose from when it comes to checkerboard slip-on shoes sold directly from Vans:
- Gray Dawn and True White
- Baby Blue and True White
- Black and Pewter Checkin
- Black and Black Check
- Black and Off-White
- Fully True White
- Pewter and True White
- Lavender and True White
- Fuchsia and True White
- Parisian Night and True White
- Etherea and True White
- Pepper Green and True White
- Turtledove and True White
- Taupe Checkerboard
The Top 3 Benefits of Lifting Weights in Flat Shoes Like Vans Classic Slip-Ons
One of the greatest advantages of lifting weights in Vans Classic Slip-Ons is the flat bottom of the shoes. It’s best to lift weights in flat-bottomed shoes because they provide you with greater stability. Shoes that have curved or uneven soles can cause you to lose your footing or lack the right foundation when lifting weights.
It’s essentially the difference between lifting weights on a flat surface versus lifting weights on an uneven surface. This isn’t to say that you will automatically or definitely fall if you lift weights in shoes without a flat bottom, but the chances of you being injured are greater than they would be with flat-soled shoes.
Additionally, another reason as to why I love lifting weights in Vans Classic Slip-On shoes has to do with the fact that these shoes do not have laces. I used to prefer shoes with laces because they allow you to tighten or loosen the shoes to meet your comfort levels.
That said, my opinion changed once I started wearing Vans Classic Slip-On shoes to the gym a bunch of years ago! Talk about a game-changer in its purest form. Since there aren’t any laces, you can move in a more natural way without feeling restricted by the top of the shoes. In my experience, this is especially important when performing movements associated with various strength training exercises.
Last but not least, I also adore these slip-on flat shoes from Vans because they’re relatively inexpensive. While $60 is nothing to throw into the wind without a care, I view $60 as being rather reasonable. Plus, these shoes last me for a very long time.
I repurchase the all-white Classic Vans Slip-Ons more often than the other colors of the same shoe, but that’s just because white items get dirty so quickly, and at a certain point, I want to replace them. However, in terms of quality, Vans Classic Slip-Ons hold up very well, even with daily use.
