Today, we’re going to focus on the topic of cardio for weight loss and whether or not it is the best way to lose weight. I figured this is something worth discussing because I still see a lot of people circulating misinformation when it comes to cardio.
Weight loss is often viewed as being not only a very complicated topic of conversation but also a difficult endeavor to embark upon. And I get it. There is so much information out there, some of which is helpful while other suggestions are misguided.
Plus, on top of the wealth of information that can feel mighty overwhelming, the desire to lose weight is often emotionally charged as well. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing! But when losing weight is something that hits home and causes you to feel more sensitive, everything can start to feel like way too much.
That’s part of the reason as to why many people stop before they even try. If you fear discomfort and you can tell that something like losing weight will force you to be real with yourself in a vulnerable way, you’ll likely shy away from it entirely, no matter how badly you want it, that being weight loss.
But don’t worry. I’m here to remind you that discomfort is something worth seeking out and gravitating towards because that’s where growth is found. You can’t live a different life if you keep doing the same things you’ve always done, and this sentiment applies to weight loss as well.
So, if you’ve been thinking about losing weight and you don’t know where to start, cardio has probably come to mind as something worth adding to your life. In order to understand how cardio for weight loss can be possible, it’s important to recognize what causes weight loss.
How Do You Lose Weight?
Weight loss comes down to calories in vs calories out. If you burn more energy than you consume, your body will use body fat as fuel instead. In other words, it is imperative that you are in a caloric deficit if weight loss is your goal. That’s where cardio for weight loss comes into play!
Cardio For Weight Loss
I like to think of cardio as an ingredient in the recipe for weight loss. Cardio is not a solution per se. You cannot simply add cardio into your life and expect to lose the weight you’d like to lose. However, cardio can be an amazing addition to your lifestyle because it can assist you in the process of being in a caloric deficit. So, cardio for weight loss is certainly possible, but cardio alone will not yield weight loss just as a lack of cardio is not responsible for weight gain.
