If you are anything like me, then you might have ended the year 2023 with a bit of weight gain, too.
Now, the first thing I feel is worth discussing is the fact that weight gain is nothing to feel ashamed about or shamed for because it makes sense. But even more so, it’s nothing to be ashamed of because weight gain is not inherently bad. It’s to be expected, especially when we endure life-altering experiences but also just in general.
So, that brings me to my first point! There should be no shame about weight gain.
There’s No Shame About Weight Gain
We live within the confines of a society that praises thinness and demonizes bigger bodies. The truth of the matter is that other people’s physiques are not yours to comment on, so I like to stick with the mantra of only minding my own body.
Likewise, just focus on yourself and dive deep within to figure out how you feel about your body. If you want to lose weight gain, great! You got this! If you’re happy with how you look and your weight gain doesn’t bother you, then that’s amazing! Follow your heart.
The point is that there should never be any shame about weight gain. Don’t listen to what other people tell you. Turn inward and zero in on your own beliefs. Being comfortable with gaining weight all comes down to choosing which thoughts you hold onto and which ones you let go of!
Weight Gain is Not a Forever Thing
While keeping in mind the fact that there’s no shame to be had about weight gain, also remember that weight gain isn’t a forever thing. If you feel uncomfortable at a heavier weight and you want to lose weight now that life is slowly returning to a state of normalcy, tell yourself that you can do it.
Mindset isn’t everything, but it is a major component. In addition to a can-do mindset, take steps towards your goal of losing weight. Remember to start out slowly. You don’t want to overdo it or push yourself so hard to the point where you have to take extra time away from the gym!
Recovery is important, but consistency is key. So, try not to full-send your workouts in a way where it renders you too tired or sore to stick with a nearly-daily workout routine. Check out this point to read 5 top tips for getting back into the gym!
Don’t Feel Bad About Gaining Weight
All in all, weight gain is normal, especially during quarantine. Go easy on yourself and try not to beat yourself up about quarantine weight gain. It’s not the end of the world, and if you want to lose your weight gain, it’s totally possible. Just remember that patience is key. You didn’t gain weight overnight, so don’t expect to lose it that quickly either. It’s all a process.
